The Maharana Pratap was born into the Sisodiya clan of Rajput rulers in Mewar, the son of Maharana Udai Singh. Despite his father’s wishes, Pratap became the ruler of Mewar against his favourite son Jagmal’s wishes. As a result, the senior nobles of Mewar decided that Pratap, the first son and rightful heir, should be crowned king.
Maharana Pratap was considered to be a man of strong Rajput character, far more brave and chivalrous than other Rajputs. Even his enemies were won over by his kindheartedness and just decisions. To this day, he remains the most celebrated ruler of India for not giving in to Mughal rule.
